Obituary for Albert Rootberg

ROOTBERG, ALBERT

Albert Rootberg, age 98, retired Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Army and proud veteran of WW II, died peacefully on March 5th,2013, at home. Beloved son of the late Abraham and Beckey. Cherished brother of the late Philip (Myn) and the late Pearl (the late Dr. Arthur) Tessler; fond uncle to nine; great uncle to 11 and greatgreat uncle to six. The family is very grateful for the devoted and compassionate care given to Mr. Rootberg by his caregiver, Antonio Olear and nurse Catherine Francel. His call to service was very important to him, and to his last day he could recite from memory the Gettsyburg Address and the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States,always with a great deal of passion and feeling. The son of immigrants, he understood what this country did for him and what it meant to him. Albert was a civil engineer who worked most of his life for the City of Chicago in the bridge department. He graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from the Armour Institute, now the Illinois Institute of Technology. Services will be private.
