Obituary for Estelle Merle Kriv

Estelle Merle Kriv (nee Pomper), a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Bubbe, passed away on July 1, 2023.


Born on February 28, 1939 to the late Arthur and Nettie Pomper, Estelle grew up in Chicago and attended South Shore High Schooland the University of Illinois. In 1960, she married Harold Kriv, who predeceased her in 2010, and raised their family in Highland Park, IL. In later years, they lived in Scottsdale, AZ and Skokie, IL. Estelle volunteered with local Jewish organizations and served on the board of the Chicago Light Opera Works (now known as Music Theater Works).One of her proudest moments was becoming a Bat Mitzvah at the age of 60 years old.


She is survived by children Arlene Kriv, Laura Kriv, Jeffrey Kriv and his wife Lorie Kennedy-Kriv; as well as her grandchildren, Nesha Ruther, Lena Ruther, and Elias Jort, and her brother Howard Pomper. Funeral services will be held July 5, 11AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd, Skokie, IL. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The Shiva will be held on July 5, 4PM-8PM with services to follow at 8:15PM and Thursday 12PM-4PM at Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation A.G. Beth Israel at 7117 North Crawford Ave., Lincolnwood, IL.
