John R. Pollack, age 78. Beloved spouse of Austin Carr. Cherished son of the late William (the late Lillian) Pollack Sr. Loving brother of the late Barbara Ulman and William (Sandi) Pollack Jr. Adored uncle to William (Leslie) Leith, Polly (Jack) Powers, William (Claudia) Pollack III, and John (Linh) Pollack, Rita Webster, Allison (Darrel) Mauzy, and Jill (Jesse) Sykora. Devoted friend to Helene Jarvis and Ray Blackburn. John had a life-long dedication to politics. He even ran for State office because he was eager to utilize the skills that he had learned from his father who was an Illinois State Representative for 20 years. His love of politics started when he was a page at the Republic National Convention as a teenager. John spent his entire career teaching at Bell School in Chicago where he was a teacher for the hearing impaired. John was very fortunate to have so many beloved co-workers, and he stayed in touch with them long after retirement. In his retirement years he cherished his time in Lake Worth, Florida where he was always a beach boy. John loved biking, swimming, and exercised at the gym and organized many activities when he had company. John was dedicated to his small circle of friends and had a tremendous capacity for love. Visitation will be at Lawrence Funeral home on November 19, at 4800 N. Austin Avenue, Chicago, IL 60630 at 11:00 AM with Graveside Services to follow at Zion Gardens 3600 N. Narrangansett Ave. Chicago, IL 60634. on November 19, at 1PM. The funeral can be viewed on John’s webpage at www.mitzvahfunerals.com live, or any time after the service.
