Nicholas John Messinides

Nicholas John Messinides, age 67, a resident of Chicago, IL, died on Friday, January 7, 2022 in Northbrook, Illinois. He was born September 2, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois to Harold and Ruth Messinides.

Raised in the Andersonville and Edgewater neighborhoods of Chicago, he attended Senn High School and studied Mathematics and Philosophy at UIC, completing his studies at Northeastern Illinois University. While at UIC, Nick met his future wife, Edie Wexler, though they parted several years later. Nick’s career began in computer programming when it was a relatively new field, later in life he earned his CPA and worked in accounting.
 
An exceptionally bright child, Nick was beating his father at chess before he was five years old. Nick had an abiding interest in Judaism, and lived on kibbutzim in Israel for several years. His lifelong interests were chess, philosophy, art, music, photography, and geopolitics. Nick will be remembered by friends and family for his keen intellect, love of debate, and wry sense of humor.

He is survived by his siblings, Terri, Leigh, Mike (Kimberly), and Chris; nephews and nieces, Jean (Peter), Allison (Brendan), Cameron, Abdi, Shikuro, Thalia, Karine, Sam, Gregory, Misha, Gina and Gus, his Aunt Bette Neebe, cousin Mark Neebe, and great nephews and nieces, Walker, Errol, Lou, Collin, and Nora.  Preceded in death by his parents Harold and Ruth (née Seed) Messinides, and his Uncle Bill Neebe and cousin James Neebe.
