Shari Handel left a gaping hole in many hearts when she left this world on January 31, 2024. She knew no stranger and her love knew no bounds. She met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Handel, in 1952 and they were married in 1956. During their 67 years of marriage, they lived every moment to the fullest. They traveled and ate their way through all 7 continents, 95 countries, and almost the entire US. She was the loving mother of Elyse Sweeney (Travis Gruenberg), the late Steven and David Handel, and the dear sister of Linda (Howard) Newman. Shari was affectionately known as “Grammalla” or “Gamma” to her grandchildren, Jeremy Handel (Brittany Hanks), Matthew Handel, Samantha (Craig) Himegarner, Jessica (Micah) Hewett, Will (Kaylah) Handel, Zach (Karina) Sweeney, and Livia Handel (Ian Matey). Her great-grandchildren, Reese and Harper Hewett and Marlowe Himegarner, will remember her as “G.G.”. She was also a caring maternal figure to Patrick Sweeney (Maria Gomez), Linda McCartney, Laura Eisen, Diane Botica, and the late Sandy Gordon.
