Obituary for Yale N. Kaplan

Yale Nathaniel Kaplan, age 90, passed away at home. Yale was a U.S. Army Veteran and a former owner of U.S. Waterproofing, a family business founded by the late Albert Weiner (Lorraine). Beloved husband of 67 years to Marilyn Schlesinger who, after driving Marilyn and her girlfriends home after meeting at a dance, wrote “not my type” in shorthand on Yale’s car window — but fortunately Marilyn’s girlfriend Milly gave Yale her phone number. The rest is history, with a loving marriage and great example of what a marriage can be. Yale is survived by Dr. Eric Kaplan (Dr. Barbara Moser), Lisa (Tom) Witt and Randi (Jim) Stern, grandchildren Zak (Caitleen), Teddy, Isaiah, Zoe, Cory, Maddy, Stacy and great-granddaughter Liora, and by many loving cousins, nephews, and nieces. Yale is preceded in death by his parents Frances and Ben Kaplan, and by his loving sister Deanne DeGraff. Family was everything to Yale. He was present at his kids’ sporting events; and he was the first to do mid-night feedings for his grandkids or pick up family at the airport. Yale and Marilyn planned multiple family vacations to nurture strong family bonds, which endure. Yale was an inspiration to his family on how to live a good life, with a guiding philosophy of “the power of positive thinking.” He will be sorely missed, but we will carry his positive energy spirit with us to help guide our path in life.
