Remembering & Giving Thanks for the life of Jonah Berele:
We will be forever grateful to Jonah for all his generous and kind service to the library and the community of children at Sulzer Regional Library.
He started volunteering at Sulzer in 1998 for the SRP, when he was in 5th grade!
And Jonah consistently offered his service every year thereafter for 15 years. He helped readers during the Summer Reading Program, tutored children in math, and finally taught the children to play chess at Sulzer Regional Library, Northtown and West Town, all Chicago Public Library Branches.
Jonah also gave his time and talents to many library projects over the years; he assisted the librarians with crowd and Jr. volunteer supervision during large library public events like the visit of the Harry Potter Mobile, he prepared display, program and craft materials, organized the Chicago History Files and updated the index for this collection, organized all the Story Time Rhyme posters and Jonah created an inventory file for this collection so the librarians could easily find rhyme posters to use during their programs; the list goes on and on.
Jonah’s passing is such a great loss for us and all who knew him. We pray Jonah has found peace. We also pray for his family.
We send our deepest sympathy across the sea. Jonah was such a kind and wise young man. May you find the comfort you need to survive this unspeakable loss.
Jonah was a one-of-a-kind individual; there was nobody like him. I think this quality made him very lonely at times, but it also make him unforgettable. I will never forget you, Jonah.
