Condolences

Condolence From: Jeff Langer
Condolence: My sincere condolences to Rob's family on his passing. I went to Niles East High School in Skokie with Rob (Class of 1973). Rob was exceptionally bright and extremely articulate. He had strongly held political views that he would ably debate with any takers. I lost touch with Rob after high school, but we reconnected at a number of Niles East reunions. Rob faced his health problems courageously for many years, remaining as passionate and vital as he was as a teenager. Not many of us can say that at age 60, particularly if we have faced health challenges even approaching Rob's. I will always remember Rob for his integrity, commitment and intelligence. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: Robert Letchinger and I were students together at Carleton College (class of 1978).

I remember Rob to have been a remarkable intellect, even by Carleton standards. To this day , I can quote from memory from several of his class papers. No other student had as profound an impact on my thinking as he had. What I remember most about Rob was his passion and his tendency to get so excited about any number of issues - historical questions, literature - not just to grasp and appreciate it, but to become positively and enthusiastically passionate about it.

I am privileged to have been his classmate, and grateful that our friendship continued and grew after Carleton and has lasted until now. I have lost a truly special friend.
