His family lived there until they moved to the town of Albion, where he attended high school. At the University of Nebraska, he earned his BA and then MA and PhD. He was always a big fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, always wearing red on game day. He appreciated music throughout his life. He was a voracious reader, evidenced by his huge accumulation of books underpinning his university teaching, and his extensive research and writing. Over the period of his career, he taught at several universities, after which he worked in Chicago for Swiss Bank Corporation, followed by and retiring from Argonne National Laboratory in the Chicago area after 15 years of service. He was invited to present at many professional conferences in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. He also enjoyed traveling for pleasure, which included through the Black Hills, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, Alaska, and trips to Japan, Taiwan, Israel, India and South Korea, and was always up to meeting new people everywhere.
Graveside service was held in St. Louis, Missouri. Memorial contributions preferred to the Dr. David L. Sallach Scholarship Fund for students attending his alma mater, the American Indian College Fund, Walder Science Center, American Jewish Committee, or an organization of your choice.
