Stephen "Steve" R. Carl, 69, a resident of Dillon, Montana and Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Chicago, passed away May 10, 2014. Son of the late Jack and Yetta (nee DeKoven) Carl, beloved brother of Jerrold D. (Susan E. Cohen) Carl, loving father of Shelly (Patrick Chan) Carl Chan, Terrie Carl, and Yonatan T. Carl, devoted grandfather of Alex F. Carl Chan, caring uncle of Jesse, Samuel and Miriam Carl and cherished partner of Ms. Lou Copeland. The students' friend and advocate, Steve had been a dedicated high school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools for more than 20 years, as well as a passionate union organizer and political activist. He was a gifted artist and an adept outdoorsman. His companionship, generosity, and good humor will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Memorial gatherings will be held Sunday, May 25th at 1:30pm at the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago, 7574 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie, Illinois and June 19th and 20th in Dillon, Montana.
