Daniel Weinberg
Though I have not seen Stuart in, perhaps, three or four years, I have known him since he first walked into my book shop, certainly 35 years ago. He loved collecting antiquarian books on Lincoln and the Civil War and amassed an impressive library. We had great fun talking books and historical events. When he finally decided to sell that collection (actually his first of two), he called me and I came over to see him (we both live(d) in Highland Park). But what I'll always have is the smell of that collection, infused with the pipe he smoked in his library. My office smelled that smell for months! --I cannot again be around a pipe without thinking fondly of Stuart. I miss his curiosity and companionship in the historical world. My condolences and deep wishes that his memory shall be a blessing.
