Dear Larry,
I am traveling and I was so sorry to read your email tonight when I got back to my room. Thank you so much for letting me know about your father's passing. As you know, I respected your father very much. I would see him at the exchange and we would have such interesting conversations. We would not only discuss the markets but a variety of topics. I really enjoyed those visits.
In fact, I remember when I started teaching a class on screen based trading in the 90’s for the floor members and that is where I first met Maurie. This is where our conversations began. He and I would have visits on breaks and after the class. His attending the class is an example of his interest in new things. He was never intimidated by the new technology of using computers to make trading decisions. I would have people in the class half his age that were ready to leave because they felt overwhelmed about using a computer but not your father. He would sit there and go through the exercises as if he’d been using a computer all along.
I never met anyone at the exchange or on the floor that did not have a kind word to say about Maurie. I admired him. He was a kind, warm person and a class act. To me he exemplified what a gentlemen and a good person should be. He did this by his actions and the way he spoke to and treated others.
I am saddened that I will not have more conversations with Maurie in the future and I treasure our visits from the past.
Maryanne, my wife, and I send our deepest sympathy to you and your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
With warmest regards,
Dan
